My passion for holistic nutrition came from my own personal health journey.

Hello! I’m Joey Anderson.

I’m a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. I’ve had a lifelong passion for food and cooking (some of my favorite childhood memories are helping my grandmother make chicken soup) which ultimately lead me to nutrition. I also know what it’s like to be addicted to sugar, embarrassed by horrible digestion, afraid of fat, and controlled by cravings.

About Me

I spent many of my late teens and early 20s in a cycle of disordered eating… I was stuck in a diet mentality that had me obsessing about calories and low fat foods. I was constipated, gassy and fatigued, I was addicted to sugar and my mood was all over the place. And while this was normal for me, it was in no way normal… it just took me some time to get that.

When I reached out to my medical providers for help they told me to eat an apple for my constipation and gave a prescription for antidepressant medication. I felt alone, unseen and like it was all in my head.

My first profound experience with the power of food occurred when I was finally able to get over my fear of fat and started incorporating healthy fats into my diet, I was finally able to stop overeating, my moods and periods improved, I lost weight and my body settled into itself in a way that felt like I was finally home. Since then I’ve completely revamped my diet, healed my digestion, scalp psoriasis and learned how to listen to my body’s messages. The power of real food and natural remedies never ceases to amaze me.

Since 2013 I’ve been working with clients all over the Bay Area and beyond, helping to transform their health with the power of real food, targeted supplements and lifestyle changes. I’ve helped clients balance their blood sugar, improve blood pressure, stop their need/reliance for acid reflux medications, heal their eczema, lose unwanted weight and heal their digestion.

I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology from UCSC, I’m a Certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), Certified GAPS Practitioner and Restorative Wellness Specialist. I’ve also spent hundreds of hours at various training and seminars along the way. Prior to becoming a Nutritional Therapist, I lived and worked as a sous chef at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur and I’ve owned a small catering business. This love of food has been a consistent theme and ultimately is at the heart of every healing protocol I put together for my clients.

I help women create a sane, sustainable, mindful and intuitive way to eat that works for them for the long game. I help women get off the blood sugar roller coaster and get to the root of their digestive issues so they can lose weight and balance hormones so they can show up to life with energy and vitality.

How I Help My Clients

There is so much information at our fingertips these days and this often causes a lot of confusion about what to eat. Many feel overwhelmed with all the information to sift through and don’t know where to start, who to trust, and how to make sense of what’s right for you. It is also too common that many of the struggles people have aren’t adequately addressed with conventional practices. Unfortunately, this can cause you to feel stuck and alone on your health journey.

If you’re tired of chasing symptoms and ready to get to the root of what’s going on, please know there is hope and you are not alone.

Here are some of the ways I support my clients:

  • I help with foundational dietary clean up and education about how body systems work.

  • I offer simple practices so you can eat consciously and help identify and find foods that work for your body.

  • I provide simple lifestyle tips to support stress handling, detoxification, and sleep which are essential to health and healing.

  • With the use of functional testing, I create protocols that promote gut healing, blood sugar and hormonal balance and help improve nutrient deficiencies.

I utilize functional lab testing for food sensitivities, GI health, hormones, nutrient deficiencies to help get clues to the obstacles getting in your way of healing. Tests I’ve been trained to work with include; GI Map, SIBO breath test, MRT food sensitivity testing, Blood Chemistry, SalivaryHormone testing, and the DUTCH test.

“When I started seeing Joey I was trying to figure out how to heal from Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and subsequent blood sugar issues. Her knowledge and support helped me learn how to properly nourish my body. She was always kind and met me where I was so I didn’t feel lost or overwhelmed. I now feel confident in my ability to nourish myself and I love the positive changes in my body.”
